Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
Short version: We collect minimal data, we don't sell it, we don't share it with advertisers, and we use analytics only to understand how the site is performing — and only if you consent to cookies.
Who we are
CityBreak.in is a UK-based travel recommendation website operated as a personal project. For the purposes of UK GDPR, the data controller is the site owner, based in the United Kingdom.
If you have questions about your data, contact us at: hello@citybreak.in
What data we collect and why
1. Quiz responses (not stored)
When you use the city break quiz, your answers are processed in your browser to calculate your match. They are also sent to the Anthropic API to generate a personalised itinerary. We do not store your quiz answers — they exist only for the duration of your session.
2. Email address (if you subscribe)
If you enter your email address in our subscription form, we collect and store it for the purpose of sending you city break inspiration and travel updates. The legal basis for this processing is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)).
- You can withdraw consent and unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
- We will not share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes.
- We retain email addresses until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data.
3. Browser storage (localStorage)
We use your browser's localStorage — not cookies — to store two pieces of information:
- Your cookie consent choice (
cb_consent_v1) — so we don't ask on every visit. - Email addresses submitted via our sign-up form (
cb_emails) — stored temporarily in your browser only. This data is not accessible by third parties and is cleared once synced to our email provider when you submit the form.
localStorage data exists only in your browser. Clearing your browser's site data removes it entirely.
4. Analytics (Google Analytics 4 — only with consent)
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how the site is used — which pages are visited, how the quiz is completed, and where visitors come from. This helps us improve the site.
- IP anonymisation is enabled. Google does not receive your full IP address.
- We do not use GA4 data for advertising or share it with third parties for marketing.
- GA4 data is processed by Google LLC. See Google's privacy policy for details of how Google handles this data.
- You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data by using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
GA4 is only loaded after you have accepted analytics cookies. If you reject cookies, no analytics data is collected.
5. Itinerary generation (Anthropic API)
Your quiz results and departure region are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a personalised 3-day itinerary. This processing is necessary to provide the core feature you requested. Anthropic processes this data under their own privacy policy — see anthropic.com/privacy. We do not send any personally identifiable information to Anthropic.
6. Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted on Netlify. Netlify may collect standard server log data (IP addresses, page requests, timestamps) for security and operational purposes. See Netlify's privacy policy.
Cookies
We use cookies as described in our Cookie Policy. Non-essential cookies (analytics) are only set after you give consent via our cookie banner.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links to Skyscanner, Booking.com and GetYourGuide. If you click these links and make a booking, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We do not share any personal data with these partners as a result of you clicking a link — standard tracking is handled through the link URL itself. See each partner's privacy policy for details of their data practices.
Your rights under UK GDPR
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Erasure — ask us to delete your personal data
- Restriction — ask us to restrict processing of your data
- Objection — object to processing where our legal basis is legitimate interests
- Portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent — at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@citybreak.in. We will respond within one calendar month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Data retention
- Email addresses: retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion
- Analytics data: retained per Google Analytics default retention settings (up to 14 months)
- Quiz session data: not retained — exists only in your browser session
Children
CityBreak.in is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page will reflect any changes. We will note the date of any changes at the top of this page. For significant changes we will make reasonable efforts to notify you — for example via a homepage notice. We recommend reviewing this policy periodically. Continued use of the site after changes does not constitute consent to any processing that legally requires it; for such processing we rely on the specific consent mechanisms described in this policy.
